HC Deb 29 July 1998 vol 317 c362W
Ms Julie Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many working days were lost through sickness, ill health or injury by NHS staff in Wales for the latest year for which figures are available; and what was the estimated total cost of those lost days. [51237]

Mr. Ron Davies

[holding answer 17 July 1998]: The information requested is not available centrally and could be collected only at disproportionate cost. However, deaths and injuries at work are reported to the Health and Safety Executive. Based on provisional estimates, there were 686 cases reported to them relating to NHS employees in Wales in 1997–98. However, the HSE do not collect the number of working days lost due to injuries more generally, or to sickness absence.
