To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what, at each university in Scotland, is the current number of undergraduates who are ordinarily resident in England whose secondary school was(a) a public or private school, (b) a grant-maintained or grammar school, (c) a local authority comprehensive school and (d) another type of school. [49707]

[holding answer 9 July 1998]: Available information is given in the table. Data are not available on English students at certain Scottish higher education institutions, nor on English students who entered higher education from further education colleges or similar routes (see footnotes).

The Scottish Office will launch a further national advertising campaign in early 1999, as one of a number of measures to prevent domestic abuse.
