§ Ms Glenda JacksonThe Department has commissioned traffic speed surveys in London since 1986. The surveys, covering central, rest of inner, and outer London are conducted on a rotating basis, with each of these three areas surveyed every three to four years. Similar surveys in other cities were carried out in 1993 and 1996. These covered the 19 largest conurbations in England, as well as five randomly chosen smaller towns.
