HC Deb 28 July 1998 vol 317 c148W
Mr. Swinney

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will provide an analysis by sector, and for small, medium and large scale businesses, of those projects which have been most successful in gaining funding from the European Regional Development Fund. [52728]

Mr. Macdonald

The information requested is not held centrally. European Regional Development Fund support is delivered through 7 area-based programmes in Scotland and 11 Community Initiative programmes. Successful projects range from the provision of business premises and training facilities to support to the enterprise networks and local authorities to encourage the creation, development and expansion of individual business, particularly small and medium enterprises.

Mr. Swinney

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will outline the range of advice and assistance which is given to those seeking assistance from the European Regional Development Fund. [52726]

Mr. Macdonald

Potential applicants for funding receive advice and assistance from a number of sources. That, provided as part of the administration of the programmes, includes general information about the availability of European Funds and how to apply for them, detailed information on the respective programmes, guidance on the completion of application (and claim) forms, and the opportunity to discuss proposals with Programme Executives and Secretariats responsible for programme administration and implementation.
