Compliance Cost Assessments (Hansard, 28 July 1998)

§ Mr. Lansley
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what cumulative net increase in compliance costs has been estimated in compliance cost assessments published by his Department since 1 May 1997. [52955]

§ Dr. Howells
Neither of the two compliance cost assessments published by this Department between 1 May 1997 and 30 June 1998 identified a net increase in compliance costs to business.

§ Mr. Lansley
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list the compliance cost assessments published by his Department since 1 May 1997. [52956]

§ Dr. Howells
Between 1 May 1997 and 30 June 1998 two compliance cost assessments were published by this Department. These related to: The Industrial Training Levy (Engineering Construction Board) Order 1998 and The Industrial Training Levy (Construction Board) Order 1998.

§ Mr. Lansley
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list those compliance cost assessments since 1 May 1997 in which there is a net reduction in compliance costs resulting from a legislative proposal. [52954]

§ Dr. Howells
Although neither of the two compliance cost assessments published by this Department between 1 May 1997 and 30 June 1998 identified a net reduction in compliance costs, in both cases there was a potential net benefit to business. The Department is committed to considering the effect its legislation has on business, for example in the design of the New Deal.
