§ Ms QuinFormal arrangements to support establishments requiring special managerial attention were established in August 1997 in a circular issued to governors by the Director General of the Prison Service. Eleven establishments are currently assessed as requiring special managerial attention. These are listed in the table.
The nature of the special managerial arrangements vary according to the circumstances of each establishment. The decision to add or remove an establishment from the list of those requiring closer managerial attention is taken by the Director General, in discussion with the relevant area manager and operational director, and taking into account any view expressed by Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons. Progress is routinely reviewed by the Prisons Board. In each case, an action plan is formulated to address identified difficulties.
