HC Deb 23 July 1998 vol 316 cc679-80W
Mr. Jenkin

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how much his Department has provided or will provide for local authority Transport Policies and Programme bids in each of the years from 1997–98 to 2005–06; and if he will make a statement. [51952]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The information for past allocation is as follows:

Year £ million
1997–98 746
1998–99 583

My Department has provisional plans to allocate the following amounts under the TPP system, or its successor, in the next three financial years:

Year £ million
1999–2000 598
2000–01 695
2001–02 987

The figure for 1997–98 includes £50 million for Croydon Tramlink. Provision for that project in subsequent years is accounted for outside the TPP system.

The figures for 1999–2000 to 2001–02 are guidelines. Final allocations for each of these years will be decided following the assessment of local authorities' bids. Unlike the figures for earlier years those for 1999–2000 to 2001–02 do not include supplementary credit approvals (SCA) set aside to match ERDF grant, or the receipts that we allow local authorities to use as part of their TPP allocations.

Figures for those elements in past years were:

Year ERDF SCA Receipts
1997–98 35 39
1998–99 26 33

The amount to be allowed for each of these elements in future years has yet to be decided.

Expenditure plans have not yet been formulated beyond 2001–02.
