HC Deb 22 July 1998 vol 316 c550W
Mr. Rapson

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if he will make a statement on the impact of reforms of the National Lottery on access to projects by disabled people. [50762]

Mr. Banks

New Policy Directions given to the Lottery distributors on 1 June require them to take into account the need to promote access for people from all sections of society. Distributors must produce strategic plans which show how they intend to do this, and these will include measures taken to encourage access for disabled people.

The National Lottery Act 1998 creates a new distributor, the New Opportunities Fund, one of whose first initiatives is to provide money to establish a network of healthy living centres, which will be of particular interest to disabled people.
