HC Deb 20 July 1998 vol 316 c391W
Mr. Dafis

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will ensure that monitoring takes place of concentrations of Technetium-99 in seaweed and crustaceans along the north coast of Wales. [50635]

Mr. Rooker

The Department continues to carry out regular monitoring and assessment of concentrations of technetium-99 in aquatic materials from the north coast of Wales.

The results are published annually in the Department's report "Radioactivity in Food and the Environment". The latest report, for 1996, shows that concentrations of technetium-99 in seaweed and crustaceans along the north coast of Wales are of negligible radiological significance. The report for 1997 will be published in the autumn.
