§ Mr. George RobertsonOn 1 May 1997, 24,359 personnel were involved in major operational commitments in Northern Ireland, the Balkans, the Gulf region and Zaire and in UN deployments in Cyprus, Kuwait and Georgia.
On 1 June 1998, 24,183 personnel were involved in operational commitments. The operation in Zaire had been completed by this date.
