HC Deb 13 July 1998 vol 316 c52W
27. Mr. Bill O'Brien

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the effects of his initiatives to reduce paedophile activity. [48423]

Ms Quin

There has been a significant change of approach since we implemented the Sex Offenders Act 1997 last September, with the police and probation services actively co-operating over public protection.

New measures in the Crime and Disorder Bill, in particular the Sex Offender Order and the extended supervision of sex offenders, will help protect the public still further from the risk of known sex offenders re-offending.
