HC Deb 13 July 1998 vol 316 c24W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development if she will make a statement on her Department's work in assisting vocational education in Colombia. [48632]

Clare Short

We are currently supporting, at a cost of £771,563, the second phase of a project with the Colombian Adult Vocational Training Service (SENA) designed to enhance training programmes for farmers in post-harvest fruit and vegetable management. The aim of the project is to create income and employment opportunities for the rural poor, by facilitating an increase in the quality and marketable quantity of fruit and vegetables in the post harvest chain.

In addition, a number of NGO projects which have helped to train Colombian community groups in marketing, business and other vocational skills have been supported through our Joint Funding Scheme.
