HC Deb 10 July 1998 vol 315 c669W
Mr. Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment he has made of the effect of the current sterling exchange rate on inflation in the United Kingdom. [49615]

Mrs. Liddell

The Chancellor of the Exchequer agrees with comments made by the Monetary Policy Committee in its May Inflation Report thatthe lagged effect of sterling's rise on import prices is exerting downward pressure on UK inflation".
