To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department if he will provide a breakdown of the number of full-time and part-time special adjudicators employed by the Immigration Appellate Authority to hear and determine asylum appeals(a) currently, (b) on 1 January 1997, (c) on 1 January 1995 and (d) at the time the Asylum and Immigration Appeals Act 1993 came into force. The number of special adjudicators are as follows:

(a) currently there are 37 full-time and 118 part-time adjudicators, (b) on 1 January 1997 there were 32 full-time and 85 part-time adjudicators, (c) on 1 January 1995 there were 21 full-time and 23 part-time adjudicators and (d) at the time the Act came into force there were 9 full-time and 6 part-time adjudicators.
