To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many offences were recorded per 1,000 population by(a) the Metropolitan Police and (b) police elsewhere in the country in (i) 1996–97 and (ii) 1997–98, (1) in total, (2) of violence against the person, (3) sexual offences, (4) of robbery, burglary, theft and handling stolen goods, (5) of fraud, (6) of criminal damage and (7) of other notifiable offences.
