§ Mr. Andrew SmithWe are looking at disincentives to work, including the position of seasonal workers, as part of the welfare state review. We are aware that administrative procedures associated with making a repeat claim for Jobseeker's Allowance, following short periods of casual work, can act as a disincentive for unemployed people to take up such opportunities. DfEE, along with those in the Department of Social Security, are considering ways in which the process can be made simpler, in order to address the disincentives which exist. Jobseekers can already use a shortened repeat claim form where they return to Jobseeker's Allowance within two weeks of leaving.
