What is the relationship between local authority housing departments and the Immigration Service; and whether they will discontinue the practice of housing departments contacting the Immigration Service about the immigration status of applicants on the waiting list. [HL2515]

There is no formal relationship between local housing authorities and the Immigration Service. But, in line with Government advice on the discharge of their housing functions, individual authorities do share information with the Immigration and Nationality Directorate where there is a need to clarify the immigration status of housing applicants.
