HC Deb 06 July 1998 vol 315 c387W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what measures the NHS has introduced to improve the provision of healthcare services in Coventry since 1 May 1997. [48512]

Mr. Milburn

Healthcare services in Coventry have benefited from significant extra resources since May 1997, including £1 million towards the cost of winter pressures and a further £1.8 million to fund waiting list initiatives in Coventry, which will facilitate a reduction of 24 per cent. in the total inpatient waiting list by the end of March 1999.

The newly approved £174 million Walsgrave Private Finance Initiative scheme will lead to the reprovision of general hospital services and acute mental health services within Coventry which will allow for a sound foundation for the further development of excellent health services in Coventry well into the next millennium.
