§ Mr. Jim CunninghamTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what measures the NHS has introduced to improve the provision of healthcare services in Coventry since 1 May 1997. [48512]
§ Mr. MilburnHealthcare services in Coventry have benefited from significant extra resources since May 1997, including £1 million towards the cost of winter pressures and a further £1.8 million to fund waiting list initiatives in Coventry, which will facilitate a reduction of 24 per cent. in the total inpatient waiting list by the end of March 1999.
The newly approved £174 million Walsgrave Private Finance Initiative scheme will lead to the reprovision of general hospital services and acute mental health services within Coventry which will allow for a sound foundation for the further development of excellent health services in Coventry well into the next millennium.
