To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster when Lord Neill took up his duties as Chair of the Committee on Standards in Public Life; what is the rate of his daily remuneration in that capacity; how many full days and part days he has contributed to the work of the Committee; and how much he has earned for doing so. Dr. David Clark

Lord Neill of Bladen QC was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life on 10 November 1997. He is paid a daily rate of £500. Up to the end of April 1998, Lord Neill had spent the equivalent of 44 full days working on Committee business, for which he has paid a total of £22,000.
