§ Mr. Barry JonesTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what measures he has taken to improve access to cancer treatment in North Wales; and if he will make a statement. [47911]
§ Mr. Win GriffithsImproving cancer services is a priority for the Government and I am pleased to say that I am making available over £20 million to fund the building of a new cancer centre for North Wales based at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. I laid the foundation stone a few weeks ago and the new centre should open in June 2000. The centre will provide high-quality cancer services to people from North Wales and will save seriously ill patients making long journeys to English centres.
