§ Ms Glenda JacksonThe operation of the Penalty Fares Scheme is a matter for London Transport. I understand that the direct costs of administering the London Underground scheme were:
- 1994–95: £1.1 million
- 1995–96: £1.4 million1
- 1996–97: £1.25 million
(including the one-off cost of enhancing the computer system)
LT Buses introduced the penalty fare scheme in 1995–96, the direct costs of administering that scheme were:
- 1995–96: £0.068 million
- 1996–97: £0.070 million
