§ Ms Glenda JacksonThe estimated net cost to public funds of VED evasion by heavy goods vehicles was £19 million in 1996–97. The enforcement cost to DVLA in the same period is estimated at £200,000. It is not possible to provide estimates for enforcement costs related to VED evasion by heavy goods vehicles in relation to other agencies.
