To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how much Government money was spent on the Equal Opportunities Commission in(a) 1995–96 and (b) 1996–97; and what estimate he has made of the annual gross cost of enforcing the Sex Discrimination Acts in (i) 1995–96 and (ii) 1996–97. The Department for Education and Employment made the following grant-in-aid payments to the Equal Opportunities Commission:(a) £6.429 million in 1995–96 and (b) £5.821 million in 1996–97. There is no estimate of the annual gross cost of enforcing the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 in these years.
