§ Ms Glenda JacksonAircraft currently contribute some 2–3 per cent. of anthropogenic CO2 emissions. They also emit NOx, which at altitude may cause a similar global warming effect. The total aircraft contribution to global warming is estimated as being [...]0.05 watts per sq m (Wm-2), compared with the combined effect of industrial emissions of [...]2 to 3 Wm-2. However, aviation emissions are expected to increase in the future because of the forecast world-wide growth in aviation. My Department will continue to work through the International Civil Aviation Organisation toward stricter emissions standards and to sponsor research on aviation and the environment.
