HC Deb 20 January 1998 vol 304 c483W
29. Mrs. Laing

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many representations he has received in support of the Government's plans to introduce tuition fees for university education. [21741]

Mr. Wilson

The Government's proposals to introduce a student contribution towards the cost of tuition, building on the recommendations of the National Committee of Inquiry into Higher Education, received support from a range of bodies. In Scotland, they included the Committee of Scottish Higher Education Principals (COSHEP), the Association of Scottish Colleges, Bell College of Technology, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and Renfrewshire Council.

Other Government Departments have also consulted widely on the Government's proposals.
