§ Dr. WhiteheadTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what video material relating to damage to plastic roadside drainage pipes has been collated by the Department of Transport; and if it is available for public examination. [22759]
§ Ms Glenda JacksonI have asked the Chief Executive of the Highways Agency, Mr. Lawrie Haynes, to write to my hon. Friend.
Letter from Lawrie Haynes to Dr. Alan Whitehead, dated 15 January 1998:
I have been asked by the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State to reply to your recent question about what video material relating to damage to plastic roadside drainage pipes has been collated by the Department of Transport, and if it is available for public examination.Video surveys of roadside drainage pipes have been undertaken for the Highways Agency by it's Maintaining Agents on certain sections of the trunk road network to assist with the maintenance of the network drainage. A sample of the surveys has been analysed by the Transport Research Laboratory for the Agency as part of an ongoing research project to investigate the performance of all types of drainage pipes. Statistical information identifying defects for all types of pipes, including plastic pipes, have been produced from these data. This research information is as yet unpublished but it can be made available on request.
