HL Deb 13 January 1998 vol 584 c195WA
Lord Onslow of Woking

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many officials in the Treasury are currently authorised to give non-attributable press briefings; and how many of these officials are political appointees.

Lord McIntosh of Haringey

In common with past practice, non-attributable briefings are given by press officers and senior officials to help journalists with background information on complex and detailed policy issues.
