HC Deb 12 January 1998 vol 304 cc24-5W
Mr. Mitchell

To ask the Minister without Portfolio (1) what arrangements will be made at the Millennium experience for access by cycle and to protect storage of cycles; and what arrangements he has made for the design of the cycle shed; [22192]

(2) what proposals he has for cycle ways to enable the public to cycle to the Millennium Experience from central London (a) via the North Bank and (b) via the South Bank of the Thames. [22193]

Mr. Mandelson

The New Millennium Experience Company will be promoting cycling as a means of travel to the Experience as part of its access strategy. Cycle facilities, including secure storage, will be provided at the Millennium Experience site. Appropriate expert advice will be sought when designing these facilities.

The New Millennium Experience Company is contributing up to £500,000 to the costs of improving cycle and pedestrian routes in the vicinity of the Experience site. In particular there will be riverside cycle way linking to the site to "historic Greenwich", which will form part of the proposed Thames Cycle Route from Central London.
