To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the impact of European defence industry restructuring on his procurement programmes. [20214]

Mr. Spellar

The success of our procurement programmes depends on a strong defence industrial base. European companies must remain competitive on the world market to ensure their survival and commercial well being. Restructuring is essential if we are going to maintain a globally competitive defence industry.
