HC Deb 12 January 1998 vol 304 c104W
Mr. Ancram

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what assessment he has made of the adequacy of funding for the Crown Office. [22034]

Mr. Dewar

The Crown Office is an independent Government Department under the direction of my noble and learned Friend the Lord Advocate. As such, its funding is provided by Parliament through a separate vote and is not part of the Scottish Block.

The Government have initiated the Comprehensive Spending Review and, in common with the other Departments, the Crown Office is committed to ensuring that forward provision is sufficient to meet the needs of prosecution and law and order in Scotland.
