HC Deb 12 January 1998 vol 304 cc41-2W
Mr. Ancram

To ask the Prime Minister how many meetings of the EU Council of Ministers the Secretary of State for Scotland will chair during the United Kingdom presidency. [22043]

The Prime Minister

As in 1992, when the United Kingdom last held the Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers, there are no definite plans for the Secretary of State for Scotland to chair any EU Council of Ministers meetings in Brussels or Luxembourg. Scottish Office Ministers can and do attend Council Meetings on behalf of the United Kingdom and that will continue to be the case during the UK Presidency.
