HC Deb 12 January 1998 vol 304 c96W
Mrs. Browning

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, pursuant to his answer of 17 December 1997,Official Report, column 232, what method will be used by local authority staff to determine the age of bovine bones in butchers' shops and catering establishments. [22140]

Mr. Rooker

[holding answer 22 December 1997]: If a local authority enforcement officer considers that bone-in beef sold to the ultimate consumer has come from animals over six months old at slaughter, (the age limit contained in the Beef Bones Regulations 1997) the onus will be on the seller to demonstrate the true age of the animal concerned.
