HC Deb 24 February 1998 vol 307 c133W
Mr. Hoyle

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many children have died at nursery schools in the United Kingdom in each of the last five years; and if he will provide statistics for each region. [30811]

Mrs. Liddell

[holding answer 23 February 1998]: The information requested falls within the responsibility of the Chief Executive of the Office for National Statistics. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Tim Holt to Mr. Lindsay Hoyle, dated 24 February 1998: As Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I have been asked to reply to your parliamentary question on deaths at nursery schools. In England and Wales for 1993–1996, the latest years for which data are available, there were no deaths registered to children aged 3–5 inclusive where place of death was recorded as nursery school. In Scotland for 1996 there were no deaths registered to children aged 3–5 inclusive where place of death was recorded as nursery school. Data for England and Wales for 1992, Scotland for 1992–95 and Northern Ireland for 1992–1996 could only be made available at disproportionate cost.
