It is the duty of the water companies to promote the efficient use of water by all their customers, including those in single-occupied homes. The companies have published water efficiency plans and offer such services as free water audits and cistern displacement devices to reduce inefficient water use.

The Government are currently considering the content of the new Water Regulations, which will replace the Water Byelaws. Our intention is that these will include requirements for the installation of water efficient sanitary and other appliances. These provisions will apply to any new or refurbished property and to replacement appliances installed after the Regulations come into force.

Regulatory requirement and other measures to promote the efficient and sustainable use of water are directed at all water users.
