HC Deb 23 February 1998 vol 307 c59W
Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer by what date he has instructed that the departmental comprehensive spending reviews will be made available to Her Majesty's Treasury; and if he will make a statement. [30614]

Mr. Darling

Reports by departments on their individual spending reviews within the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) are made to the Ministerial Committee on Public Expenditure. The results of the CSR will be reported to Parliament in the Summer as I said when I announced the Review on 11 June last year,Official Report, columns 1143–57.

Mr. Bill O'Brien

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment he has made of the need to co-ordinate decisions on the outcome of the comprehensive spending review, in respect of(a) housing spending, (b) mortgage interest tax relief, (c) stamp duty, (d) housing benefit, (e) income support, (f) capital gains and (g) council tax; and if he will make a statement. [29546]

Mr. Darling

The Comprehensive Spending review covers public expenditure across the board. It will produce a coherent and coordinated set of plans for directing expenditure across Government to areas where we believe it is most needed. Mechanisms are in place to ensure that individual reviews take account of relevant proposals in other areas.
