To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many households would pay extra tax in excess of(a) £90, (b) £100, (c) £180 and (d) £400 if child benefit were taxed as income of the principal earner in a household. [29190]

[holding answer 12 February 1998]: The table gives estimates for 1998–99 assuming child benefit is taxed as income of the lone parent or the person with the higher income in a couple.
