§ Ms Glenda JacksonThe Government support, in principle, the introduction of a tax on aviation fuel at an international level. My Department is participating in a study by the International Civil Aviation Organisation on the effects of a range of environmental levies including aviation fuel tax. This report is expected to be presented to the ICAO Assembly in September. In addition, the European Commission is supporting a study of the environmental and competitive effects on the EU of an aviation fuel tax. This is due to be completed in August. We will consider how to take forward policy after we know the results of these studies.
