§ Mrs. Liddell[holding answer 18 February 1998]: The Treasury's total expenditure on hospitality, stationery and travel in the UK in 1996–97 was £112,000, £289,000 and £217,000, respectively. A regional breakdown of procurement would mean each invoice would have to be examined. This could be carried out only at disproportionate cost.
