To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what was the total cost of the clean up operation following the 'Sea Empress' disaster; and what estimate he has made of the cost of the disaster to(a) the fishing industry in the area and (b) the local tourist industry. The Government recently presented the following information, which gives our official estimates of the costs arising from the Sea Empress grounding, at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund.
