§ Ms Quin[holding answer 17 February 1998]The United Kingdom is not a member of Schengen and therefore has not been involved in any restructuring of the Schengen Information System, which is a matter for the Schengen states.
The incorporation of Schengen into the European Union Treaties, agreed in the Treaty of Amsterdam, requires an appropriate Treaty base to be established for the Articles in the Schengen Convention which provide for the Schengen Information System; work on this is continuing.
