HC Deb 18 February 1998 vol 306 c691W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Attorney-General what proposals he has, consequent on the High Court ruling that British Coal is liable for compensation payments to coal miners from 1947, to amend the Limitation Acts to enable such settlements to be pursued. [28994]

Mr. Hoon

I have been asked to reply.

The Law Commission is carrying out a comprehensive review of the law of limitation, with a view to simplification and rationalisation of the law. The Commission published a Consultation Paper in January this year, outlining the present law and setting out provisional proposals for reform. The consultation will be followed by the publication of a Report containing the Law Commission's final recommendations, which we will then consider. The Government do not plan to modify the law relating to limitation of actions before then.
