HC Deb 17 February 1998 vol 306 c606W
Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what guidance he offers to farmers on altering the butterfat content of cow's milk by adjusting the feed content. [29738]

Mr. Rooker

The butterfat content of milk is largely determined by the breed and genetic merit of the cow, but it can also be affected by the composition of the cow's diet. Individual milk producers can obtain advice on feeding through their normal farming advisers. The results of the Department's and other sponsors' research in this area are disseminated through their respective technology transfer programmes.
