HC Deb 16 February 1998 vol 306 c453W
Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what independent scientific advice he has evaluated on the quality of emissions from energy to waste facilities. [28508]

Angela Eagle

The Environment Agency is responsible for authorising emissions to air, water and land from large scale energy from waste facilities under the integrated pollution control system.

The Agency publishes guidance to its inspectors on the standards with which such plant should comply. This guidance takes account of the Agency's own technical expertise, advice of consultants, non-governmental organisations and industry, and other relevant studies and reports from the UK and around the world.
