448WA person with infectious tuberculosis of the respiratory tract may be detained in hospital under section 37 of the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act, 1984. This would happen only when all other routes to establish treatment compliance has been exhausted and the person was deemed a risk to public health. Although compulsory admission to hospital is allowable under the law, compulsory treatment is not.
