HC Deb 13 February 1998 vol 306 cc432-3W
Mr. Hoyle

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) what plans he has to encourage the public to support British farmers by buying British produce; [28456]

(2) what plans he has for a campaign to promote the sale of British farm products in supermarkets and local shops. [28374]

Mr. Rooker

My colleagues and I take every opportunity to promote British produce, but a Buy British campaign would contravene the Treaty of Rome. Our aim is to encourage UK producers to provide the kind of food that everyone will want to buy, and to market it effectively.
