To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what plans he has to introduce tax breaks for companies investing in research and development projects involving partnership with United Kingdom educational establishments. [27235]

The Chancellor and President of the Board of Trade are taking a wide-ranging look at ways of improving the UK's record on investment in research and development. As a first step I am sponsoring a working group on the financing of high technology companies. Given the nearness of the Budget I am unable to comment on particular matters of taxation.
