  • Casual Appointments: 49
  • Fixed-term Appointments: 15
  • Period Appointments: 7.

There were 45 temporary DTI appointments in Government Offices during the same period, of which 33 were Casual and 12 were Fixed-term.

Letter from Peter Joyce to Mr. Simon Burns, dated 12 February 1998: The President of the Board of Trade has asked me to reply to your question about the appointment by The Insolvency Service of non-career civil servants. In the period from 1 May 1997 to 1 January 1998 The Service appointed 84 non-permanent staff. Some of these have subsequently left The Service or have been converted to permanent status. The number does not include staff taken on from employment agencies and who are not civil servants.

Since 1 May 1997, fifty-three casual staff and three short notice clerks have been appointed to the Employment Tribunals Service. I hope that this is helpful.
