To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many contracts have been(a) awarded, (b) finalised and (c) signed for the New Deal in Cornwall. [25465]

[holding answer 26 January 1998]: Seven contracts have been awarded in Cornwall and all of these have been finalised. One contract has been signed. In addition 105 employer agreements have been signed with firms and other organisations interested in providing New Deal employment.

[holding answer 26 January 1998]: I can confirm that seven contracts have been awarded from 19 tenders. Six contracts have been agreed at tender price, one at below tender price.
