HC Deb 12 February 1998 vol 306 c369W
Ms Roseanna Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations have been made to him regarding a possible conflict of interest in the appointment of a consultant to undertake a report on the opportunities for Gaelic broadcasting in the digital era; and if he will make a statement. [29214]

Mr. Wilson

Three letters have been received. Replies have pointed out that there is no conflict of interest, since the Scottish Office has no role in the award of licences for programme service providers or in contracts for television production. These are matters for the Independent Television Commission and the broadcasters respectively.
