Mr. Wilkinson

To ask the Minister without Portfolio in what capacity he gave his Florence lecture in January; at what public expense; and what consultations he had with representatives of the Foreign Office beforehand. [28741]

Mr. Mandelson

I was invited by HM Ambassador, Rome to give the lecture at the European University Institute as the first in a series of lectures to mark the United Kingdom Presidency of the European Union. The cost of my visit was approximately £970.
